2035년 넷 제로 운영·90% 순환 폐기물 달성 목표

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자] 세코가 제조 현장의 지속가능성을 강화하기 위해 새로운 디지털 평가 도구를 개발, 생산 부문에 본격 적용하고 있다. 회사는 이를 통해 2030년까지 순환 폐기물 90% 달성, 2035년까지 넷 제로(Net-Zero) 운영, 공급업체 관리 체계 강화 및 안전하고 포용적인 근무 환경 확립이라는 중장기 목표 달성에 속도를 내고 있다.

세코는 전체 가치 사슬에서 지속가능성을 핵심 원칙으로 삼고 있으며, 이번 도구는 생산 현장이 자사의 글로벌 목표와 어느 수준에서 부합하는지, 개선을 어디서부터 시작해야 하는지 구체적으로 파악할 수 있도록 설계됐다. 기존에 보건·안전 분야는 일부 정착돼 있었으나, 순환 경제와 탄소중립 달성을 위한 관리 체계에는 새로운 접근이 필요하다는 문제의식을 반영한 것이다.

해당 지속가능성 평가 도구는 2021년부터 개발에 착수했으며, 법적 최소 기준을 충족하는 레벨 1부터 모범 사례를 구현하는 레벨 6까지 총 6단계로 구성됐다. 레벨 2∼5는 개별 사업장이 상위 수준으로 점진적으로 나아갈 수 있도록 구체적 개선 단계를 제시한다.

주요 평가 항목은 △사람 및 지역사회(안전, 보건, 다양성, 형평성, 포용성, 지역사회 참여) △기후·생물다양성·순환성(자원, 배출, 폐기물 관리) △현장별 특성(생산·시설·인프라와 지속가능성 통합 정도) △공급업체 관리 등이다.

세코는 2021~2022년 동안 스웨덴·네덜란드 현장과 협력해 이 체계를 시험 적용했고, 글로벌 현장의 피드백을 반영해 현장에서 직접 활용 가능한 실용적 도구로 발전시켰다.

디지털로 전환, 현장 사용자 친화성 강화

초기 버전은 2023년 엑셀 기반으로 제공됐으나, 사용자의 편의성과 효율성 요구에 따라 이후 디지털화 프로젝트가 가동됐다. 현재는 마이페이지(MyPages) 플랫폼에서 모바일 친화적으로 제공되며, 현장의 지속가능성 수준 분석과 개선 우선순위 설정, 시간경과별 성과 추적, 모범 사례 공유가 가능하다. 이를 바탕으로 각 사이트는 자체 실행 계획을 수립·관리할 수 있다.

세코는 이 도구가 내부 생산 부서를 넘어 고객과 이해관계자들에게도 활용 가치가 있다고 보고, 외부 적용 버전 개발 가능성을 검토 중이다. 이를 통해 공급망과 산업 전반의 지속가능성 수준 제고에 기여한다는 방침이다.

Net zero operation in 2035, target to achieve 90% circular waste

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] Seko is developing a new digital evaluation tool and applying it to the production sector in order to strengthen the sustainability of manufacturing sites. Through this, the company is speeding up its mid- to long-term goals of achieving 90% of circular waste by 2030, operating Net-Zero by 2035, strengthening the supplier management system, and establishing a safe and inclusive working environment.

Seco has sustainability as its core principle in the entire value chain, and this tool is designed to specifically understand at what level the production site is in line with its global goals and where to start improving. Although some health and safety sectors have been established in the past, it reflects the awareness that a new approach is needed to the management system to achieve a circular economy and carbon neutrality.

The sustainability assessment tool has been in development since 2021, consisting of a total of six levels, from Level 1 meeting the legal minimum criteria to Level 6 implementing best practices. Levels 2 and 5 present specific improvement steps so that individual workplaces can gradually move to higher levels.

The main evaluation items are △ people and communities (safety, health, diversity, equity, inclusion, community participation) △ climate, biodiversity and circulation (resource, discharge, waste management) △ site-specific characteristics (the degree of sustainability integration with production, facilities, infrastructure) △ supplier management.

Seko tested and applied the system in cooperation with Swedish and Dutch sites during 2021-2022, reflecting feedback from global sites and developing it into a practical tool that can be used directly in the field.

Digital transition, enhanced on-site user-friendliness

The initial version was provided based on Excel in 2023, but the digitization project was later operated according to the user's convenience and efficiency needs. Currently, it is provided mobile-friendly on the MyPages platform, and it is possible to analyze the level of sustainability in the field, set priorities for improvement, track performance over time, and share best practices. Based on this, each site can establish and manage its own action plan.

Seko believes the tool is worth using for customers and stakeholders beyond the internal production department, and is considering the possibility of developing an externally applied version. Through this, the policy is to contribute to improving the level of sustainability in the supply chain and industry as a whole.
