역대 최대 한국관 및 ‘KBTP 네트워킹 리셉션’ 성황… 세계로 뻗는 바이오 한류

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자] 한국바이오협회는 지난 6월 16일부터 19일까지 미국 보스턴에서 열린 세계 최대 바이오 전시회 ‘BIO International Convention 2025’(BIO USA)에서 역대 최대 규모의 한국관 운영과 다양한 부대 행사를 통해 K-바이오의 글로벌 경쟁력을 널리 알렸다.

올해 BIO USA에는 전 세계 70여 개국에서 약 2만 명이 참가했으며, 한국 참관객은 약 1,300여 명으로 3년 연속 최대 규모를 기록했다. 한국바이오협회와 코트라(KOTRA)가 공동 운영한 ‘Korea Pavilion’은 총 6,000sqft 규모로, 전시장 중심에 위치해 국제 참가자들의 주목을 받았다.

한국관, 전시부터 기술 발표까지 전방위 홍보

올해 한국관에는 51개 바이오 기업과 3개 유관기관이 참가해 CDMO, 임상 서비스, 신약개발, 소부장(소재·부품·장비) 등 한국 바이오산업의 전 분야 기술과 파이프라인을 소개했다. 현장에서 450건 이상의 비즈니스 상담이 이뤄졌으며, 한국관 내 오픈스테이지에서는 24개 기업이 기술 발표를 진행, 글로벌 파트너사들로부터 큰 관심을 받았다.

특히, 미국바이오협회 회장 존 크로울리(John Crowley)와 그의 딸 메건이 한국관을 방문해, 한미 바이오 협력의 상징적 장면을 연출했다.

글로벌 공급망 세션 패널로 한국 협회 참여

6월 18일, 메인 컨퍼런스 세션 중 하나인 ‘Building Resilient Global and National Supply Chains’에 한국바이오협회 황주리 교류협력본부장이 패널로 참여해, 한국 바이오 산업의 공급망 전략을 소개했다. 황 본부장은 삼성의 CDMO 확장 사례를 언급하며, 한국 바이오산업이 공급망의 상류와 하류를 아우르는 통합 전략을 강화해야 한다고 강조했다.

또한, 송도 바이오 클러스터처럼 인력양성, 소부장 유치, 제조 인프라를 집약하는 완결형 공급망 허브 모델이 중요한 전략이 될 것이라 언급했다. 이와 함께, 중국과의 협력 유지, 글로벌 인재 양성, 국제 동맹국 간 상호보완적 협력의 중요성도 패널 토론에서 강조됐다.

KBTP 2025, 글로벌 네트워킹의 중심 무대로

6월 17일 저녁에는 한국바이오협회, 코트라, 한국산업기술기획평가원(KEIT), 한국거래소 등 주요 기관이 공동 주최한 ‘Korea BioTech Partnership(KBTP) 2025’가 열렸다. 700여 명의 국내외 주요 인사가 참석해 글로벌 네트워킹의 장이 마련됐다.

특히 참석자의 절반 이상이 해외 인사로 구성되었고, 사전등록자 수가 1,000명을 넘을 정도로 높은 관심을 받았다.

1부 ‘Korea Capital Market Spotlight’에서는 외국인 투자 정책, 코스닥 상장제도, 국내 진출 가이드라인 등이 소개됐고, 2부 ‘Meet the Korean Biotechs’에서는 국회 우원식 의장의 영상 축사로 시작해 유한양행, 에이비엘바이오, 로슈 등의 주요 발표가 이어졌다.

유한양행 이영미 부사장은 글로벌 기술이전 사례와 함께 한국 바이오산업의 성장 가능성을 소개하며, 해외 파트너십 확대를 강조했다.

에이비엘바이오 이상훈 대표는 GSK, 사노피 등 글로벌 제약사와의 협력 사례를 공유하며, 라이선스 아웃 및 공동개발 전략의 필요성을 언급했다.

로슈 아시아 파트너링 헤드 함얀 보겔드(Harm-Jan Borgeld)는 한국 바이오 생태계의 혁신성과 협력 의지를 높이 평가하며, 공동개발 및 액셀러레이터 프로그램 협력 가능성을 제시했다.

공식 프로그램 이후에는 약 100분간의 네트워킹 세션이 이어졌으며, 미국 상무부 관계자들도 참석해 양국 간 협력 가능성에 대한 기대감을 나타냈다.

“K-바이오, 전시장을 장악하다”

미국 주최 측 전시 담당자 시드니 윌리엄스는 “지난 20년간 한국관의 성장세는 놀라웠다”며, “올해는 특히 혁신 기업들이 전시장에 활력을 더했다”고 호평했다.

한국바이오협회 이승규 부회장은 “역대 최대 규모의 한국관은 바이오산업 글로벌 진출을 위한 협회와 코트라, 기업들의 공동 노력의 결과”라며, “KBTP 네트워킹 리셉션과 같은 프로그램들이 더 많은 글로벌 협력 기회를 창출하길 바란다”고 전했다.

한편, 내년도 BIO USA 2026은 미국 샌디에이고에서 개최될 예정이며, 협회는 코트라와 협력해 통합 한국관 운영과 함께 더 다양하고 전략적인 프로그램을 통해 국내 기업의 해외 진출을 지원할 계획이다.

The Biggest Korean Pavilion and 'KBTP Networking Reception' in History... Bio-Hallyu Spreads Around the World

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] The Korea Bio Association announced the global competitiveness of K-bio through the largest operation of the Korean pavilion and various auxiliary events at the world's largest bio exhibition 'BIO International Convention 2025' (BIO USA) held in Boston, USA from June 16 to 19.

This year's BIO USA attracted about 20,000 people from more than 70 countries around the world, and the number of Korean visitors was about 1,300, the largest for three consecutive years. The "Korea Pavilion," co-operated by the Korea Bio Association and KOTRA, is a total of 6,000 sq ft and is located in the center of the exhibition hall, attracting the attention of international participants.

Korean Pavilion Promotes All-round From Exhibition to Technology Presentation

This year, 51 bio companies and three related organizations participated in the Korean Pavilion to introduce technologies and pipelines in all fields of the Korean bio industry, including CDMO, clinical services, new drug development, and small managers (materials, parts, and equipment). More than 450 business consultations took place at the site, and 24 companies held technology presentations at the open stage of the Korean Pavilion, drawing great attention from global partners.

In particular, John Crowley, president of the American Bio Association, and his daughter Meghan visited the Korean Pavilion to create an iconic scene of Korea-U.S. bio cooperation.

Korea Association Participates in Global Supply Chain Session Panel

On June 18, Hwang Joo-ri, the head of the Korea Bio Association's exchange and cooperation division, participated as a panelist at 'Building Resilient Global and National Supply Chains', one of the main conference sessions, to introduce the supply chain strategy of the Korean bio industry. Referring to Samsung's CDMO expansion, Hwang stressed that the Korean bio industry should strengthen its integration strategy that encompasses the upstream and downstream of the supply chain.

In addition, he mentioned that a complete supply chain hub model that concentrates manpower training, small manager attraction, and manufacturing infrastructure, like the Songdo Bio Cluster, will be an important strategy. In addition, the importance of maintaining cooperation with China, cultivating global talents, and complementary cooperation between international allies was also emphasized in the panel discussion.

KBTP 2025 is the center stage of global networking

The Korea BioTech Partnership (KBTP) 2025 was held on the evening of June 17 jointly hosted by major organizations such as the Korea Bio Association, KOTRA, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Planning and Evaluation (KEIT), and the Korea Exchange. More than 700 key figures from home and abroad attended the event, setting the stage for global networking.

In particular, more than half of the participants consisted of overseas figures, and received high attention, with more than 1,000 pre-registrants.

Foreign investment policies, KOSDAQ listing systems, and guidelines for entry into Korea were introduced in the first part of the "Korea Capital Market Spotlight," and in the second part of the "Meet the Korean Bios," major announcements such as Yuhan Corporation, ABL Bio, and Roche began with a video congratulatory speech by Chairman Woo Won-sik of the National Assembly.

Yuhan Corporation Vice President Lee Young-mi introduced the growth potential of the Korean bio industry along with global technology transfer cases and emphasized the expansion of overseas partnerships.

The Sanghoon Lee CEO of ABL Bio shared examples of cooperation with global pharmaceutical companies such as GSK and Sanofi, citing the need for licensing out and joint development strategies.

Roche Asia Partnering Head Harm-Jan Borgeld (Harm-Jan Borgeld) praised the innovation and willingness of the Korean bio-ecosystem and suggested the possibility of joint development and accelerator program cooperation.

After the official program, a networking session lasted about 100 minutes, and officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce also attended to express expectations for possible cooperation between the two countries.

"K-Bio Takes Over Exhibition Hall"

"The growth of the Korean pavilion over the past 20 years has been remarkable," said Sidney Williams, an exhibition manager at the U.S. organizer, adding that "this year, innovative companies, in particular, have revitalized the exhibition hall."

Lee Seung-gyu, vice chairman of the Korea Bio Association, said, "The largest view in Korea ever is the result of joint efforts by associations, KOTRA, and companies to advance into the bio industry globally. We hope programs such as KBTP Networking Reception will create more opportunities for global cooperation."

 

Meanwhile, next year's BIO USA 2026 will be held in San Diego, USA, and the association plans to cooperate with KOTRA to support domestic companies' overseas expansion through more diverse and strategic programs along with the operation of the integrated Korean Pavilion.
