(뉴질랜드= KTN) 박춘태 기자= '2024 재뉴질랜드 대한체육회장배 스쿼시 대회'가 지난 6월 29일(토요일) 오클랜드 North Shore Squash Club에서 개최되었다. 후원 단체로는 재뉴대한체육회, 오클랜드한인회, 재뉴대한골프협회, 재뉴대한야구협회였으며, 후원업체로는 MULTI PLUMBING LTD, Health NZ, H-Mart, 365 Health, Natural NZ였다.

이번 대회는 재뉴질랜드 대한체육회가 주최하고, 재뉴질랜드 대한스쿼시연맹이 주관한 것으로, 다가오는 10월 경남 김해에서 개최되는 제105회 전국체육대회에 참가할 뉴질랜드 대표 선발전을 겸한 대회였다. 

치열한 경쟁을 벌인 결과, 남자부 우승은 윤치호, 준우승은 정선호, 3위는 고길수 선수가 차지 하였으며, 여자부 우승은 동 종목에서 지난해 전국체육대회 금메달을 딴 오수진, 준우승은 MAGGIE CHEN, 3위는 최서윤 선수가 차지 하였다.

아울러 부문별 입상자들에게는 상장과 시상금도 지급되었는데, 전국체육대회 선수로 선발된 남, 여 각 1명씩에게는 일부 항공료로 500달러를 지원하기로 하였다.

재뉴질랜드 대한스쿼시연맹 안기종 회장은 "지난해에 이어 개최된 선발전을 통해 한인 스쿼시가 보다 활성화되고, 많은 동호인들이 즐겁게 운동할 수 있는 여건 조성을 위해 적극 지원하도록 노력할 예정이며, 또한 제105회 전국체육대회에서 뉴질랜드 선수단이 우수한 성적을 거두기 위해 물심양면으로 지원하겠다. 또한 성공적인 대회 개최를 위해 후원해 주신 관계자 분들께도 진심으로 감사하다."고 전했다.

이번 대회의 아쉬운 점이라면 뉴질랜드 전 지역에 거주하는 한인들의 참가가 아닌, 참가자 대부분이 오클랜드에 있는 동호인이었다는 점이다. 이에 대해 관계자는 ‘추후 적극적인 홍보로 뉴질랜드 전 지역에 거주하는 많은 한인 스쿼시 동호인들이 참가할 수 있도록 노력할 예정’이라고 밝혔다.

Squash New Zealand national team competition to participate in the 105th National Sports Festival, 2024 New Korea Sports Council Presidential Cup 'Squash Competition' will be held

(New Zealand = KTN) Reporter Park Choon-tae = The "2024 New Zealand Korean Sports Council Presidential Squash Competition" was held at the North Shore Squash Club in Auckland on June 29 (Saturday). The sponsoring organizations were the New Korea Sports Association, the Oakland Korean Association, the New Korea Golf Association, and the New Korea Baseball Association, while the sponsoring companies were MULTI PLUMBING LTD, Health NZ, H-Mart, 365 Health, and Natural NZ.

The competition was hosted by the Korean Sports Council of New Zealand and organized by the Korean Squash Federation of New Zealand, which combined to select New Zealand representatives to participate in the 105th National Sports Festival to be held in Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, in October.

As a result of the fierce competition, Yoon Chi-ho won the men's championship, Jeong Seon-ho won the runner-up, Ko Gil-soo won the third place, Oh Soo-jin, who won the gold medal at the national sports competition last year, MAGGIE CHEN won the runner-up, and Choi Seo-yoon won the third place.

In addition, awards and awards were given to the winners in each category, and $500 was provided to each man and woman selected as national sports competition players as a partial airfare.

Ahn Ki-jong, president of the Korean Squash Federation in New Zealand, said, "Through the selection competition held following last year, we will actively support Korean squash to become more active and to create an environment where many amateur players can enjoy sports, and we will also provide support from both sides to ensure that the New Zealand team performs well at the 105th National Sports Festival. We also sincerely thank the officials for their support for the successful hosting of the competition."

What's disappointing about this competition is that most of the participants were hobbyists in Auckland, not Koreans living in all parts of New Zealand. In response, an official said, "We will make efforts to ensure that many Korean squash clubs living in all parts of New Zealand can participate in the event with active publicity in the future."
