Philippines crack down on illegal POGO, arresting 24 Koreans... Announcement of the Embassy's Safety Notice

The operation arrested 400 foreigners, including 24 Koreans, and 52 Filipinos.

According to major media and related agencies in the host country, the distribution of 400 arrested foreigners by nationality is 207 Chinese, 132 Vietnamese, 24 Korean, 11 Malaysian, 14 Indonesian, and 12 Myanmar. POGO companies, which still operate illegally in the Philippines, are under strong crackdown, with 29 people arrested on the 12th, 32 on the 14th, 21 on the 17th, and 453 on the 20th in February alone.

The Philippine government has completely banned the operation of the POGO business and made the act illegal, and accordingly, a large-scale crackdown on illegal POGO companies will continue.

South Korean Embassy in the Philippines Announces Safety Notice for Korean Residents

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines warned, "There is an increasing number of cases of participating in illegal employment and criminal organizations because they are misled by advertisements that guarantee high part-time jobs and stable profits. Participation in illegal online casinos, voice phishing organizations, and other criminal organizations can be arrested and punished in the Philippines and Korea, respectively."

In addition, he said, "Our people may face serious disadvantages such as judicial punishment if they participate in illegal businesses such as illegal POGO, unauthorized casinos, and voice phishing, so please pay special attention."

[한국통신문 기사제휴] (뉴스코리아=마닐라) 황장익 특파원 = 필리핀 대통령실 조직범죄대책위원회(Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission)는 2025년 2월 26일(수), 필리핀 경찰청 수사국(CIDG)과 법무부 이민국 등 관계기관과 함께 파사이시에 위치한 불법 POGO(Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator, 온라인 도박장) Scam Hub를 단속했다. 이번 작전으로 한국인 24명을 포함한 외국인 400명과 필리핀인 52명이 체포되었다.

대규모 단속 작전 지속… 한국인 포함 외국인 다수 검거

주재국 주요 언론과 관계기관에 따르면, 체포된 외국인 400명 중 국적별 분포는 중국인 207명, 베트남인 132명, 한국인 24명, 말레이시아인 11명, 인도네시아인 14명, 미얀마인 12명 등이다. 필리핀 내에서 여전히 불법적으로 운영되는 POGO 업체들은 2월 한 달 동안만 해도 12일 29명, 14일 32명, 17일 21명, 20일 453명이 체포되는 등 강력한 단속이 이루어지고 있다.

필리핀 정부는 POGO 사업 운영을 전면 금지하고 해당 행위를 불법으로 규정하였으며, 이에 따라 불법 POGO 업체들에 대한 대규모 단속이 계속될 예정이다.

주필리핀 대한민국 대사관, 교민 대상 안전 공지 발표

주필리핀 대한민국 대사관은 "고액 아르바이트, 안정적 수익을 보장한다는 광고에 현혹되어 불법 취업 및 범죄 조직에 가담하는 사례가 증가하고 있다"며, "불법 온라인 카지노나 보이스피싱 조직, 기타 범죄 단체에 가담할 경우 필리핀과 한국에서 각각 체포 및 처벌될 수 있다"고 경고했다.

또한, "우리 국민들은 불법 POGO, 무허가 카지노, 보이스피싱 등 불법 사업체에 가담할 경우 사법적 처벌과 같은 심각한 불이익을 받을 수 있으니 각별히 유의해달라"고 당부했다.
