The Battle of Ilycheon, which marked a milestone in the history of King Taejo Wang Geon's reunification of the Later Three Kingdoms, is recorded as a large-scale battle between Goryeo and Hubaekje in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in 936.

In Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, a musical based on Samtaesa, a contributor to the founding of Goryeo, will be performed in July.

The 102nd National Sports Festival, held in October last year, is the first large-scale event to be held in the post-Corona era.

The governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do has vowed to make the National Sports Festival a stage of national harmony and co-prosperity.

As the National Sports Festival, which is more meaningful than any other national sports event ever, an event suitable for it was also needed.

If we had prepared a large-scale performance based on the Battle of Ilycheon through the opening or closing ceremony, it would have achieved a new era of the National Sports Festival event.

태조 왕건이 후삼국 통일의 계기가 된 역사의 한 획을 그은 일리천 전투는 936년 경북 구미 지방에서 벌어진 고려와 후백제간의 대규모 전투로 기록되어있다.

고려사에 따르면 당시 고려군은 보병과 기병 등 총 8만 7,500여명의 병력이 동원됐으며, 전투에 참가한 장수의 수는 38명에 이르렀다.

일리천 전투는 후삼국 통일의 결정적인 마지막 전투였음에도 불구하고 그 기록과 인지도면에서 낮다. 하지만 중요했던 전투인 만큼 몇 편의 논문에서 연구되어진 사례가 있다.

삼국지의 가장 유명한 전쟁인 적벽대전을 소재로 영화가 제작된 것과도 같이 일리천 전투 당시 벌어졌던 일화를 바탕으로 한 극적인 영화 제작도 가능하다.

경북 안동에서는 오는 7월 고려 개국 공신인 삼태사를 소재로 한 뮤지컬을 공연한다.

지난해 10월에 개최되는 제102회 전국체전은 포스트코로나시대에 열리는 대규모의  첫 행사이다.

경북지사는 이번 전국체전을 국민화합과 상생의 무대로 만들겠다고 공언한 바 있다.

역대 어느 전국체전보다도 더욱 의미가 깊은 전국체전으로서 그에 걸맞는 이벤트 역시 필요했다.

개막식 또는 폐회식을 통해 일리천 전투를 소재로 한 대규모 퍼포먼스를 준비했더라면 전국체전 행사의 신기원을 이룩했을 것이다.
