Two days and one night filled with congratulations on master's and doctoral graduates and communication between new and old researchers

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung (National Certified Data Agency, GBC Research Institute)] On August 22, a summer workshop by the GBC (Global Brand Communication) lab of the National Kumoh Institute of Technology (GBC) was held at the Dance Village Education Center located in Mueul-myeon, Gumi City. Since its establishment in 2010 under the guidance of Professor Kim Gui-gon, the GBC Laboratory, which has produced more than 150 masters and doctors and has supplied talents to various fields of academia and industry, had a meaningful time to celebrate graduates who have recently obtained degrees through this workshop and to share knowledge and strengthen harmony together.

"It was possible because we were together"… a special degree ceremony full of inspiration and appreciation

The workshop opened as a special traditional event unique to the GBC Laboratory. Professor Kim Gwi-gon recently held his own degree ceremony for five graduates who received master's and doctorate degrees from the official degree ceremony. Beyond academic achievements, this is meant to celebrate and encourage all the lab members who have shared the hard work of the process.

Graduates expressed their feelings of emotion. Jang Jong-gil, chairman of Gumi Gang-dong Saemaeul Geumgo, who received his master's degree, said, "I am so happy to be here at the last moment, and I am grateful to those who have been with me. Without the professor and the GBC family, I could not have achieved it." Dr. Rani from Indonesia expressed his sincere gratitude, saying, "I was able to overcome the difficult process thanks to my colleagues who made me feel like I was not alone" in his native language and Korean.

In response, Professor Kim Gwi-gon explained the meaning of the degree award by handing over the graduates' doctoral skills from right to left. "From a bachelor's to a master's degree, I put alcohol on the right until I get a degree plaque, and then I hand it over to the left as soon as I get a degree," he said, adding to the meaning of the event.

The footsteps of the seniors and the passion of the juniors meet

The workshop led to a time where graduates (OB) and new researchers introduced themselves and got to know each other. The seniors who graduated gave encouragement to their juniors, sharing their current status in all walks of life. Lee Dong-yeop, a professor in charge of the Department of Intellectual Property Convergence at Kyungpook National University who graduated in 2022, emphasized the importance of lab activities, saying, "My experience at GBC became the turning point of my life and I took a new career path." In addition, Dr. Lee Kang-sun, executive director of UniEver Co., Ltd., compared the thesis writing process to "go" and advised, "Like the process of building a house with a professor, constant communication and effort are important."

The newly joined researchers expressed their ambition and passion amid warm welcome from their seniors. "We will strengthen our physical strength to keep up with the passion and learning of our seniors," one freshman said, making people laugh. As such, the experience of our seniors and the passion of our juniors were combined, and we were able to confirm the strong bond at the GBC lab.

Prof. Kim Gwi-gon, who serves as the centerpiece of such a research center, is considered an expert who has published more than 150 domestic and foreign papers and two books including SCI-class papers, as well as chairman of the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee of the Korea Securities Association. At the workshop, Kim gave academic advice and encouragement to junior researchers.

 

 

He stressed the importance of cooperation, saying, "If you want to go fast, you go alone, but if you want to go far, you can shorten the period by helping several people on the path of the thesis." He pointed out, "The thesis is empirical and volatile, so it is easy to go back to the beginning if you let go of it for a while," and added, "In particular, researchers who want to enter the academic world should continue their research because three years after obtaining a doctorate is very important."

In addition, Professor Kim expressed his affection for his disciples, saying, "I also keep studying because you are constantly challenging new topics, which gives me great positive energy." He said, "I hope you feel the joy of learning and learning new things," and delivered an in-depth message about the academic attitude that researchers should have.

The end of the workshop was filled with recreation conducted by Bang Dong-young, a Ph.D. researcher. The members laid down their academic weight for a while, became united through games and activities, and regained their vitality in college.

The summer workshop at the GBC Laboratory of the National Kumoh National Institute of Technology was not just a place of friendship, but also a festival to celebrate academic achievement, share knowledge and experience, and reflect on the meaning of the community. The positive energy created by seniors, juniors, and teachers together is expected to be the driving force for the further development of the GBC lab in the future.

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자(국가공인 데이터거래사, GBC연구원)] 지난 8월 22일, 구미시 무을면에 위치한 춤새마을 교육관에서 국립금오공과대학교 GBC(Global Brand Communication) 연구실(지도교수 김귀곤)의 하계 워크숍이 열렸다. 2010년 김귀곤 교수의 지도로 설립된 이래 현재까지 150여 명의 석·박사를 배출하며 학계와 산업계 다방면에 인재를 공급해온 GBC 연구실은 이번 워크숍을 통해 최근 학위를 취득한 졸업생들을 축하하고, 선후배 연구원들이 함께 지식을 공유하며 화합을 다지는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

워크숍의 시작은 GBC 연구실만의 특별한 전통 행사로 문을 열었다. 김귀곤 지도교수는 최근 공식 학위수여식에서 석·박사 학위를 받은 5명의 졸업생을 위해 연구실 자체 학위수여식을 거행했다. 이는 학문적 성과를 넘어 그 과정의 노고를 함께한 연구실 구성원 모두가 축하하고 격려하는 의미를 담고 있다.

졸업생들은 감격에 찬 소감을 밝혔다. 석사학위를 수여받은 구미강동새마을금고 장종길 이사장은 "막상 이 자리에 서니 마음이 너무 행복하고, 함께해 주신 분들께 감사하다"며, "교수님과 GBC 가족분들이 없었다면 이룰 수 없었을 것"이라고 눈시울을 붉혔다. 인도네시아 출신 라니 박사는 모국어와 한국어로 "혼자가 아니라고 느끼게 해준 동료들 덕분에 힘든 과정을 이겨낼 수 있었다"며 진심 어린 감사를 표했다.

선배들의 발자취와 후배들의 열정이 만나다

워크숍은 졸업생(OB)과 신입 연구원들이 자신을 소개하며 서로를 알아가는 시간으로 이어졌다. 졸업한 선배들은 사회 각계각층에서 활약하는 자신의 근황을 전하며 후배들에게 격려를 아끼지 않았다. 2022년에 졸업한 한 이동엽 경북대학교 지식재산융합학과 전담교수는 "GBC에서의 경험이 인생의 터닝포인트가 되어 새로운 진로를 걷게 되었다"며 연구실 활동의 중요성을 강조했다. 또 (주)유니에버 전무이사 이강선 박사는 논문 작성 과정을 '바둑'에 비유하며 "교수님과 함께 집을 지어가는 과정처럼, 꾸준한 소통과 노력이 중요하다"고 조언했다.

새롭게 합류한 신입 연구원들은 선배들의 따뜻한 환영 속에 각자의 포부와 열정을 드러냈다. 한 신입생은 "선배님들의 열정과 배움을 따라갈 수 있도록 체력부터 보강하겠다"는 재치 있는 소감으로 웃음을 자아냈다. 이처럼 선배들의 경험과 후배들의 열정이 어우러지며 GBC 연구실의 끈끈한 유대감을 확인할 수 있었다.

"멀리 가려면 함께 가야"… 김귀곤 교수의 학문적 고찰과 격려

이러한 연구실의 구심점 역할을 하는 김귀곤 교수는 SCI급 논문을 포함해 150여 편의 국내외 논문과 2권의 저서를 출간한 학자이자, (사)한국증권학회 4차 산업혁명위원회 위원장으로도 활동하며 이론과 실무를 겸비한 전문가로 평가받는다. 이날 워크숍에서 김 교수는 후배 연구원들을 위한 학문적 조언과 격려를 아끼지 않았다.

 

 

그는 "빨리 가려면 혼자 가지만, 멀리 가려면 함께 가야 하듯이 논문의 길도 여러 사람이 서로 도와야 기간을 단축할 수 있다"며 협력의 중요성을 역설했다. 그는 "논문은 경험적이면서도 휘발성이 강해 잠시 손을 놓으면 처음으로 돌아가기 쉽다"고 지적하며, "특히 학계로 진출하고 싶은 연구원들은 박사 학위 취득 후 3년이 매우 중요하므로 꾸준히 연구를 지속해야 한다"고 당부했다.

또한, 김 교수는 "여러분들이 새로운 주제에 끊임없이 도전하기에 나 역시 계속 공부하게 되고, 이는 나에게 큰 긍정적 에너지를 준다"며 제자들에 대한 애정을 드러냈다. 그는 "새로운 것을 배우고 익히는 데서 오는 즐거움을 느끼길 바란다"며 연구자들이 가져야 할 학문적 자세에 대해 깊이 있는 메시지를 전했다.

워크숍의 마지막은 방동영 박사과정 연구원이 진행한 레크리에이션으로 채워졌다. 회원들은 잠시 학업의 무게를 내려놓고 게임과 활동을 통해 한마음이 되며 대학 시절의 활기를 되찾았다.
