(전국= KTN) 김도형 기자= 경상북도는 9월 4일 경산시청에서 ㈜신세계사이먼, 경산시, 대구경북경제자유구역청, 경산지식산업개발(주)과 경산지식산업지구 내에 프리미엄 아울렛 개발을 위한 투자유치 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.

경산시청 대회의실에서 개최된 이번 협약식에는 이철우 경상북도지사, 최영조 경산시장, 조창현 ㈜신세계사이먼 대표이사, 최삼룡 대구경북경제자유구역청장, 김상열 경산지식산업개발(주) 대표이사가 참석해 각 기관 간 상호협력을 약속했다.

㈜신세계사이먼은 세계적인 프리미엄 아울렛을 운영하는 美사이먼프로퍼티 그룹과 국내 신세계그룹의 합작투자회사(외국인투자기업)로, 이번 MOU을 통해 미화 1억불(약 1천200억원) 이상을 투자, 경산지식산업지구 내 약 17만7천㎡(5만3천평) 규모의 부지에 200여개의 국내․외 유명 패션 잡화 브랜드로 구성된 프리미엄 아울렛을 조성하기로 했다.

Reporter Kim Do-hyung of KTN: Gyeongsangbuk-do signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Gyeongsan City Hall on September 4 to attract investment to develop premium outlets in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District with Shin Segye Simon Co., Gyeongsan City, Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority, and Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry Development Co.

The signing ceremony, which was held at the conference room of Gyeongsan City Hall, was attended by Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Chul-woo, Gyeongsan Mayor Choi Young-jo, Shin Segye Simon CEO Cho Chang-hyun, Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Commissioner Choi Sam-ryong, and Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry Development CEO Kim Sang-yeol, who promised mutual cooperation among agencies.

New World Simon Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between Simon Property Group and Korea's Shinsegae Group, which operates global premium outlets, and will invest more than US$100 million (about 120 billion won) through the MOU to create a premium outlet consisting of 200 domestic and foreign fashion brands on a 177,000 square-square-meter (53,000 pyeong) site in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District.

국내에서는 여주, 파주, 부산, 시흥에 이은 다섯 번째 투자이며, 이번 투자를 통해 경산에 ‘파주 프리미엄 아울렛’ 규모의 아울렛이 들어서게 될 전망이다.

경산 프리미엄 아울렛은 2023년 말 그랜드 오픈을 목표로 추진되며, 이를 통해 직․간접적으로 2천여명 이상의 일자리가 창출되고, 국․내외 관광객 유치 효과가 유발돼 경산, 영천, 청도 등 인근 지역경제 활성화에도 큰 파급효과가 있을 것으로 기대된다.

한편, 경산지식산업지구는 2012년부터 경산시 하양읍 대학리와 와촌면 소월리 일원에 약 1조원의 사업비를 들여 382만3천㎡(116만평) 규모로 특화산업단지와 연구센터 등을 조성하는 경북지역 최대 규모의 경제자유구역이다.

Gyeongsan Premium Outlet will be promoted with the goal of grand opening at the end of 2023, which will create more than 2,000 jobs directly and indirectly, and cause the effect of attracting domestic and foreign tourists, which is expected to have a significant ripple effect on revitalizing the local economy in nearby areas such as Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, and Cheongdo.

Meanwhile, the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industrial Zone is the largest free economic zone in North Gyeongsang Province, with 3,823,000 square meters (1.16 million pyeong) of specialised industrial complexes and research centers at a cost of about 1 trillion won from 2012 in Daehak-ri, Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan-si, and Sowol-ri, Wachon-myeon.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “제조업대비 고용유발 효과가 2배에 달하는 서비스업에 대한 이번 사업투자가 지역 일자리 창출에 크게 기여할 것”이라며, “대구경북 통합신공항 건설로 물류, 산업, 관광 등 대구경북 경제․산업 발전의 획기적인 전기가 마련된 가운데 시작되는 이번 사업투자가 시너지 효과를 누릴 수 있도록 경상북도에서 적극적인 투자환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠으며, 신세계사이먼 역시 팔공산 등 경북의 수려한 자연경관과 어울리는 교외형 프리미엄 아울렛으로 잘 개발해 침체된 지역경제 활성화에 큰 역할을 해주시길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

참고로, 지난 2007년 이후 여주, 파주, 부산, 시흥에 개장한 신세계사이먼 프리미엄 아울렛은 현재 각 매장별로 연간 600~800만명의 관광객이 찾으며, 채용박람회 개최, 지역주민 우선채용, 농특산물 판매공간 제공 등을 통해 지역경제 활성화와 일자리 창출에 기여하고 있다.

"This business investment in the service industry, which has twice the employment inducement effect compared to manufacturing, will greatly contribute to the creation of jobs in the region," said Lee Cheol-woo, governor of North Gyeongsang Province. "We will do our best to create an active investment environment in North Gyeongsang Province so that the construction of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport, including logistics, industry and tourism, can enjoy synergy effects, and Shinsegae Simon also harmonizes with the natural landscape in North Gyeongsang Province."

For reference, Shinsegae Simon Premium Outlets, which have been opened in Yeoju, Paju, Busan, and Siheung since 2007, are currently attracting 6 to 8 million tourists a year for each store, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and job creation by holding job fairs, preferential hiring of local residents, and providing space for selling agricultural products.
