Ma has an inner and outer horse, which is an integral part of mind anguish, including greed, anger, foolishness, pride, and doubt, and more realistically, wealth, color, appetite, fame, and sleep are all worries, and outer horse means sickness, ill, envy, and temptation.

Performance must be accompanied by a demon, but when there is a devil ahead of something, it is thought to be a process of growing bigger than feeling anxious and considering it as a bad sign, so you must devote more energy to performance and never give in.

With inner strength, the horse is overcome. No matter what crisis comes, I should not blame Ma, but I should diligently try and work hard to have the strength inside me.

우학스님께서 말하길 '마'는 '마라'라고 하는 인도의 산스크리스트어라고 하며 '마의 군사'는 '마군'에서 '마군이'가 연음되면서 '마구니'로 쓰인 것이라고 한다.

마는 한마디로 방해꾼이라고도 하며 우리의 수행을 방해하고 몸과 마음을 어지럽게 하는 그 모든 것이 마구니라고 한다.

마에는 내마와 외마가 있는데 내마는 마음 번뇌의 일체로서 탐욕과 화내는 마음과 어리석음과 교만과 의심까지 포함하는 번뇌이고 조금 더 현실적으로는 재물욕, 색욕, 식욕, 명예욕, 수면욕 또한 모두 번뇌이자 마이며 외마는 병마나 우환이나 시기나 질투, 유혹 등을 뜻한다.

수행에는 반드시 마가 따라붙는데 어떤 일을 앞두고 마가 낄 때 그것을 불안해하고 나쁜 징조로 여기는 것보다는 더욱 크게 성장하는 과정이라고 생각하여 수행에 더욱 가열차게 정진해야 하고 절대 굴복해서는 안된다.

내면의 힘을 갖추면 마는 극복된다. 어떤 위기가 닥치더라도 마를 탓할 것이 아니라 내 안의 힘을 갖추기 위해 부지런히 노력하고 정진해야 한다.
