월드쉐어, 미얀마 강진 피해 현장에 긴급 지원 나서

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자] 국제구호개발 NGO 월드쉐어(이사장 최순자)가 지난 3월 28일(현지 시각) 발생한 미얀마 강진 피해 지역을 돕기 위해 긴급 지원에 착수했다.

월드쉐어는 그동안 태국 내 미얀마 접경 지역 난민캠프 등에서 구호 물품 전달, 태양열 가로등 설치 등 인도적 지원을 지속해 왔다. 이번 강진으로 미얀마 전역이 극심한 피해를 입은 가운데, 월드쉐어는 구축된 네트워크와 전문성을 바탕으로 신속한 지원을 진행 중이다.

이번 지진은 미얀마 중부 만달레이 지역 인근에서 규모 7.7로 발생해 수도 네피도를 포함한 6개 도시에 막대한 피해를 남겼다. 현재까지 2,000명 이상의 사망자와 3,900여 명의 부상자가 집계됐으며, 미국 지질조사국(UGSG)은 사망자가 1만 명을 초과할 가능성이 높다고 분석하고 있다.

건물 붕괴로 인한 인명 피해가 심각하며, 의료 시설도 큰 타격을 받아 부상자 치료에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 현재까지 300만 명 이상이 삶의 터전을 잃고 극심한 고통을 겪고 있는 상황이다.

특히 어린이, 여성, 노인 등 취약계층이 심각한 위기에 처해 있다. 가족을 잃고 거리로 내몰린 아이들은 보호받을 곳이 없으며, 식량과 깨끗한 식수마저 부족해 생존 자체가 위협받고 있다. 이에 월드쉐어는 현지 협력자를 중심으로 긴급 구호팀을 결성해 피해 상황을 신속히 파악하고, 가장 도움이 절실한 취약계층 이재민을 대상으로 긴급구호를 진행하고 있다.

월드쉐어 김병노 상임이사는 “이번 강진은 단순한 자연재해를 넘어 미얀마 주민들에게 참혹한 현실을 안겨주고 있다”며 “특히 어린이들과 취약계층이 극도로 위험한 상황에 처해 있는 만큼 더 이상 지체할 시간이 없다. 현재 피해 지역에서는 긴급 식량과 생수, 생필품이 절대적으로 부족한 상황이며, 가능한 모든 방법을 동원해 신속한 지원을 이어갈 것”이라고 전했다.

이어 “이런 재난 앞에서 국제사회의 관심과 연대가 절실하다. 하루라도 빨리 더 많은 도움의 손길이 닿을 수 있도록 함께해 주시길 간절히 부탁드린다”고 덧붙였다.

이번 미얀마 긴급구호 모금은 월드쉐어 공식 홈페이지(www.worldshare.or.kr) 및 대표전화를 통해 참여할 수 있으며, 후원금은 미얀마 강진 피해 지역의 식량과 생수, 생필품 지원 등에 사용될 예정이다. 월드쉐어는 신속한 지원을 통해 아이들이 다시 희망을 품고 일어설 수 있도록 최선을 다할 계획이다.

WorldShare provides emergency assistance to the earthquake-stricken area in Myanmar

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] World Share (Chairman Choi Soon-ja), an international relief and development NGO, launched emergency assistance to help Myanmar's earthquake-hit areas on March 28 (local time).

WorldShare has continued to provide humanitarian support, such as delivering relief supplies and installing solar streetlights at refugee camps near Myanmar in Thailand. With the strong earthquake severely damaged the entire Myanmar region, WorldShare is providing rapid support based on its established network and expertise.

The earthquake struck near the Mandalay region in central Myanmar and left huge damage to six cities, including the capital Naypyitaw. More than 2,000 deaths and 3,900 injuries have been counted so far, and the U.S. Geological Survey (UGSG) analyzes that the death toll is likely to exceed 10,000.

The casualties caused by the collapse of the building are serious, and medical facilities are also suffering from severe damage, making it difficult to treat the injured. So far, more than 3 million people have lost their homes and are suffering from severe pain.

In particular, vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly are in serious crisis. Children who have lost their families and are driven to the streets have nowhere to be protected, and their survival itself is threatened by a lack of food and clean drinking water. In response, WorldShare has formed an emergency relief team centered on local collaborators to quickly identify the damage situation and provide emergency relief to victims of vulnerable groups who are most in need.

"This strong earthquake is not just a natural disaster, but a terrible reality for Myanmar residents," said Kim Byung-no, executive director of World Share. "There is no time to delay anymore, especially as children and vulnerable groups are in extremely dangerous situations. There is an absolute shortage of emergency food, bottled water and daily necessities in the affected areas, and we will continue to provide prompt support by using every means possible."

"In the face of such disasters, the international community's attention and solidarity are urgently needed. I sincerely ask you to join me so that more hands of help can be reached as soon as possible," he added.

The emergency relief fundraising in Myanmar can be participated through the official WorldShare website (www.worldshare.or.kr ) and the representative phone, and the donation will be used to support food, bottled water and daily necessities in Myanmar's earthquake-affected areas. WorldShare plans to do its best to help children stand up again with hope through prompt support.
