[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자] 대구서구청소년수련관 방과후아카데미가 2025년 3월 22일(토) 미국 컵 스카우트(Cup Scouts)와 함께하는 ‘한미 청소년 국제문화교류 행사’를 성공적으로 개최했다. 이번 행사에는 미국 컵스카우트 단원(초·중등학생)과 대구서구청소년수련관 방과후아카데미 학생들, 예스국제친선협회 소속 청소년들이 참여하여 뜻깊은 교류의 시간을 가졌다.

박재진 대구서구청소년수련관장은 환영사를 통해 "청소년들이 다양한 문화적 경험을 통해 성장할 수 있는 기회를 마련하게 되어 기쁘다"며 "서로의 문화를 존중하고 소중한 추억을 만들기를 바란다"고 전했다. 행사 진행은 대구서구청소년수련관의 영어 업무를 지원하는 예스국제친선협회의 서보덕 대표가 맡았다.

이날 행사는 1교시와 2교시로 나뉘어 진행됐다. 1교시에는 디폼블럭 만들기 활동이 진행되었으며, 한미 청소년들은 함께 앉아 인사를 나누고 협력하며 창의적인 작품을 만들었다. 특히, 방과후아카데미 학생들은 토요멘토링 활동을 통해 배운 영어 표현을 사용하여 미국 친구들과 자연스럽게 대화하는 모습을 보였다.

 

 

 

2교시에는 강당에서 한국 전통놀이 체험이 열렸다. 참가자들은 공기놀이, 딱지치기, 단체줄넘기 등을 함께 즐기며 문화적 차이를 넘어 친밀감을 형성했다. 특히, 한국 학생들이 미국 학생들에게 바디랭귀지와 영어를 활용해 놀이 방법을 설명하는 모습이 인상적이었다.

 

이날 행사에는 미국 컵스카우트 학생들의 학부모들도 참여하여 의미를 더했다. 학부모들은 한국 학생들과 함께 전통놀이를 즐기고 단체줄넘기에도 참여하며 적극적으로 교류했다. 한미 청소년들이 함께 줄넘기를 즐기는 모습은 행사 분위기를 더욱 화기애애하게 만들었다.

행사 종료 후, 박재진 관장은 미국 컵 스카우트 지도자인 Daniel Rubio 씨와 168th MMB(제168다중의무대대) Major(소령) Christman에게 감사장을 전달하며 감사의 뜻을 전했다. 또한, 모든 참가 학생들에게 수료증을 수여하며 그들의 노력을 격려했다.

 

 

미국 학부모들은 한국 학생들에게 컵스카우트 배지, 사탕, 초콜릿 등을 선물하며 감사의 마음을 전했고, 대구서구청소년수련관 측은 한국 전통 북 모양의 열쇠고리를 미국 학생들에게 전달하며 훈훈한 분위기 속에서 행사를 마무리했다.

이번 행사는 한미 청소년들이 서로의 문화를 이해하고 우정을 나누는 소중한 기회가 되었다. 참가자들은 "처음에는 어색했지만 놀이를 함께하면서 자연스럽게 친해질 수 있었다", "한국 전통놀이를 배울 수 있어서 흥미로웠다" 등의 긍정적인 소감을 남겼다.

대구서구청소년수련관 방과후아카데미 윤재근 총괄팀장은 "주한미군과 연계하여 진행하는 토요영어회화멘토링에 꾸준히 참여한 학생들이 이번 행사에서 적극적으로 영어로 대화하는 모습을 많이 보였다"며 꾸준한 외국어 학습의 중요성을 강조했다.

대구서구청소년수련관 방과후아카데미는 예스국제친선협회와 함께 주한미군과 토요영어회화멘토링을 월 2회 진행하고 있으며, 앞으로도 한국과 미국 간 청소년 교류를 위한 다양한 프로그램을 기획하여 지속적인 소통과 협력을 이어갈 계획이다.

Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center's after-school academy concluded the Korea-U.S. youth international cultural exchange event successfully

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center's after-school academy successfully held the "Korea-U.S. Youth International Cultural Exchange Event" with Cup Scouts on March 22, 2025 (Sat). The event was attended by members of the U.S. Cup Scouts (elementary and middle school students), students of the Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center's after-school academy, and teenagers from the Yes International Friendship Association.

Park Jae-jin, director of the Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center, said in a welcoming speech, "We are happy to provide an opportunity for teenagers to grow through various cultural experiences," adding, "We hope to respect each other's culture and create precious memories." The event was hosted by Seo Bo-deok, CEO of the Yes International Friendship Association, which supports the English work of the Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center.

The event was divided into the first and second periods. In the first period, a deform block making activity was held, and Korean and American teenagers sat together to greet each other, cooperate, and create creative works. In particular, after-school academy students showed a natural conversation with American friends using English expressions learned through Saturday mentoring activities.

In the second period, a traditional Korean play experience was held in the auditorium. Participants enjoyed playing with air, playing slapstick game, and group jump rope together, forming a rapport beyond cultural differences. In particular, it was impressive to see Korean students explaining how to play using body language and English to American students.

Parents of Cup Scout students from the U.S. also participated in the event, adding to the significance. Parents actively exchanged with Korean students by enjoying traditional games and participating in group jump rope. The sight of Korean and American teenagers enjoying jump rope together made the atmosphere of the event even more friendly.

After the event concluded, Park Jae-jin expressed his gratitude to Daniel Rubio, the U.S. Cup Scout leader, and Major Christman, the 168th MMB (Middle Stage). In addition, all participating students were awarded certificates of completion, encouraging their efforts.

U.S. parents thanked Korean students by presenting Cup Scout badges, candies, and chocolates, and Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center delivered a traditional Korean drum-shaped keychain to American students to end the event in a warm atmosphere.

This event was a valuable opportunity for Korean and American teenagers to understand each other's culture and share friendships. Participants left positive comments, such as "It was awkward at first, but I was able to get close naturally while playing together," and "It was interesting to learn Korean traditional games."

Yoon Jae-geun, head of the after-school academy at Seo-gu Youth Training Center in Daegu, emphasized the importance of steady foreign language learning, saying, "Students who have consistently participated in Saturday English conversation mentoring in connection with the U.S. military in Korea have shown a lot of active conversation in English at this event."

Daegu Seo-gu Youth Training Center's after-school academy holds Saturday English conversation mentoring with the U.S. Forces Korea twice a month with the Yes International Friendship Association, and plans to continue communication and cooperation by planning various programs for youth exchange between Korea and the United States.
