행복을 그리는 화가, 이미영의 예술 세계

 

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자]이미영 작가가 오는 4월 4일부터 6일까지 프랑스 파리 루브르 박물관 카루젤에서 열리는 국제 미술 전시회 ‘ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025’에 참가한다. 출국을 앞둔 그녀는 이번 전시가 단순한 작품 발표의 장을 넘어, 자신의 삶과 철학을 담아낸 의미 깊은 시간이라고 밝혔다.

그림을 통해 찾은 행복의 의미

“저는 그냥 그림을 좋아하는 평범한 주부였습니다.”

이미영 작가는 둘째 아이가 장애를 가지고 태어나면서 깊은 우울감과 힘든 나날을 보냈다. 그러던 중, 아이의 특수유치원 선생님이 해준 "부모가 행복해야 아이도 행복하다"는 말이 그녀의 삶을 바꾸는 계기가 되었다.

“선생님의 조언을 듣고, 평생 아이와 함께할 수 있고, 집에서도 즐길 수 있는 그림을 그리기 시작했어요.”

그녀의 작품은 ‘행복 취향’이라는 주제를 중심으로 전개된다. 세상에서는 행복과 불행이 이분법적으로 나뉘지만, 그녀가 그리는 회화의 세계에서는 현실과 가상이 조화를 이루며 ‘행복은 결국 각자의 취향’이라는 가설 아래 작품이 탄생한다.

검은 드레스의 여인과 백마, 꿈꾸는 세상

이미영 작가의 그림에는 항상 검은 드레스를 입은 여인이 등장한다. 그 여인의 곁에는 희고 신비로운 백마가 함께한다.

"아들이 가장 좋아하는 동물이 말이에요. 개인적으로도 아이가 말처럼 자유롭게 뛰어다녔으면 하는 바람이 있죠."

작품 속 세계는 현실에서 할 수 없는 것들을 이룰 수 있는 공간이다. 그림 속 여인은 상처받지 않고, 평온한 세상에서 자유를 누린다. 특별한 기법 없이, 하루하루 일기 쓰듯 캔버스를 채워가는 그녀의 작업 방식도 이와 맞닿아 있다.

시를 통해 위로받다

종교가 없는 그녀에게 가장 큰 영감을 주는 것은 나태주 시인의 시집이다.

“속이 복잡할 때나 영감이 떠오르지 않을 때, 선생님께서 선물해주신 시집을 읽어요. ‘화창한 날씨만 믿고 나섰다가 소낙비를 만나도, 그것 또한 소중한 하루’라는 시 구절이 제 삶과 그림을 지탱하는 원천이 됩니다.”

장애아를 키우는 삶, 그리고 예술가로서의 길이 쉬운 것은 아니지만, 그녀는 자신의 그림을 통해 사람들에게 행복의 다양한 모습을 보여주고 싶다고 말한다.

행복의 취향을 나누는 예술가로서의 첫걸음

이미영 작가의 모든 작품에서 여인의 얼굴은 이목구비가 희미하거나, 눈썹만 그려져 있다. 이는 “너무 날선 말과 영혼 없는 말들이 난무하는 세상에 대한 무언의 표현”이라고 그녀는 설명한다.

“이 전시는 단순한 전시가 아니라, 제가 작가로서 살아가며 자부심과 희망, 그리고 행복을 느낄 수 있는 중요한 계기가 될 것 같아요.”

방구석 취미로 시작했던 그림이 이제는 전 세계 관객과 소통하는 예술로 성장했다. 그녀의 작품은 이번 ‘ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025’에서 행복의 다양한 얼굴과 각자의 취향을 존중하는 메시지를 담아낼 예정이다.

Lee Mi-young's Art World, a painter who paints happiness

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] Lee Mi-young will participate in the international art exhibition "ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025" to be held at the Louvre Museum Carousel in Paris, France from April 4-6. Ahead of her departure, she said the exhibition is a meaningful time that captures her life and philosophy beyond just presenting her work.

The meaning of happiness found through painting

"I was just an ordinary housewife who loved painting."

Writer Lee Mi-young had a deep depression and hard days when her second child was born with a disability. In the meantime, the words "The child is happy only when the parents are happy" from the child's special kindergarten teacher became an opportunity to change her life.

"After listening to your advice, I started drawing pictures that I could spend my whole life with my child and enjoy at home."

Her work revolves around the theme of 'happiness taste'. In the world, happiness and unhappiness are divided into dichotomy, but in the world of painting she paints, reality and virtuality are harmonized, and works are born under the hypothesis that 'happiness is eventually each person's taste'.

The Woman in the Black Dress, the White Horse, and the Dream World

Lee Mi-young's paintings always feature a woman wearing a black dress. Next to her is a white and mysterious white horse.

"It's my son's favorite animal. Personally, I want him to run freely like a horse."

The world in the work is a space where you can achieve things that you cannot do in reality. The woman in the painting is unscathed and enjoys freedom in a peaceful world. Her work method of filling the canvas like writing a diary every day without any special techniques is in line with this.

What inspires her the most without religion is poet Na Tae-ju's poetry collection.

"When I feel complicated or can't think of inspiration, I read the poems you gave me as a gift. The poem 'Even if I trust in the sunny weather and meet the Sonakbi, it is a precious day,' is the source of support for my life and painting."

Raising a disabled child, and her path as an artist is not easy, but she says she wants to show people various aspects of happiness through her paintings.

The first step as an artist to share the taste of happiness

In all of Lee's works, a woman's face has faint features or only eyebrows drawn. This is "an unspoken expression of a world where too sharp words and soulless words are scattered," she explains.

"This exhibition is not just an exhibition, but I think it will be an important opportunity for me to feel pride, hope, and happiness as a writer."

Painting, which started as a hobby in the corner of a room, has now grown into art of communicating with audiences around the world. Her work will contain various faces of happiness and messages of respect for each person's taste in this "ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025."
