"시간의 흔적을 담아, 영속성을 표현하다"

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자] 프랑스 루브르 박물관에서 열리는 'ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025'에 초청된 류주현 작가가 현대미술의 새로운 흐름을 제시한다. 그녀의 작품은 2025년 4월 4일부터 6일까지 루브르 박물관 내 카루젤(CARROUSEL DU LOUVRE)에서 전시되며, 세계 각국의 예술가들과 함께 현대미술의 장을 빛낼 예정이다.

류주현 작가는 늦은 나이에 다시 미술을 전공하고, 현재 경기대학교 대학원에서 회화 석사 과정을 밟고 있다. 어려서부터 미술을 좋아했지만, 공무원이었던 아버지의 박봉으로 인해 예술을 전공하는 것이 쉽지 않았다. 그러나 그녀는 붓을 놓지 않았고, 성인이 되어 결국 자신이 꿈꾸던 길을 걷고 있다. 현재 전업 작가로 활동하며, 시간과 흔적의 개념을 탐구하는 작품을 선보이고 있다.

그녀의 작품 세계는 추상표현주의를 기반으로 한다. 점, 선, 면, 색, 질감이 조화를 이루며, 시간의 흔적과 영속성을 주제로 작품을 제작한다. 캔버스 위에 여러 겹으로 쌓이는 색의 레이어는 감정과 기억이 축적되는 과정을 상징하며, 붓 터치의 질감과 색상의 대비는 인생의 희로애락을 표현한다. 작품 속 자유롭게 흐르는 선들은 예상치 못한 삶의 방향을 의미하며, 관객들에게 깊은 감성을 전달한다.

그녀는 거리의 낡은 벽, 색이 바랜 광고 전단지, 오래된 사물에서 영감을 얻는다. 스크래치, 드리핑, 리콜라주, 번지기 등의 기법을 활용하며, 때로는 손으로 직접 문지르거나 다양한 재료를 혼합하여 작품을 완성한다. 그녀의 작품에는 희망적이고 밝은 색상이 자주 사용되며, 관람자들에게 긍정적인 에너지를 전달한다.

대표적인 작품으로는 푸른 십자가와 스무 개의 상자가 있으며, 석분 및 유리가루를 사용하여 질감을 강조한 시간의 흔적 시리즈가 있다. 최근에는 선과 드로잉을 적극적으로 활용한 소규모 작품도 제작 중이다. 그녀는 끊임없이 새로운 표현 방식을 실험하며, 예술적 탐구를 이어가고 있다.

2023년 프랑스에서 레지던시 작가로 활동하며 노르망디와 파리에서 작품을 전시한 그녀는 유럽 관객들의 반응을 통해 더욱 발전할 수 있었다고 말한다. 지난해에는 갤러리 미쉘과 파리 아트쇼에서 작품을 선보였으며, 이러한 해외 전시 경험이 창작의 폭을 넓히는 데 큰 도움이 되었다.

이번 'ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025'에서 그녀의 작품이 어떤 반응을 얻을지 기대를 모은다. 앞으로는 더욱 다양한 작업을 통해 관객과 소통하며, 나아가 의류 패턴 및 아트상품과의 협업에도 도전하고 싶다는 포부를 밝혔다.

Her work will be displayed at CARROUSEL DU LOUVRE in the Louvre from April 4-6, 2025, and she will shine on the field of contemporary art with artists from all over the world.

Ryu Joo-hyun is majoring in art again at a late age, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in painting at the Graduate School of Kyunggi University. Although she has been fond of art since childhood, it was not easy for her father, who was a public servant, to major in art. However, she did not let go of her brush, and eventually, as an adult, she is walking the path of her dreams. Currently working as a full-time artist, she presents works that explore the concepts of time and trace.

The world of her work is based on abstract expressionism. Dots, lines, cotton, colors, and textures are in harmony, and she creates works based on the traces of time and permanence. The layers of color that are stacked on the canvas symbolize the process of accumulating emotions and memories, and the contrast between the texture and color of the brush touch expresses the joy, sorrow, and pleasure of life. The lines that flow freely in the work mean an unexpected direction of life and convey a deep emotion to the audience.

She gets her inspiration from old walls on the streets, faded advertisement flyers, and old objects. She utilizes techniques such as scratches, dripping, ricocheting, and smudging, and sometimes completes her work by hand-scrubbing or mixing various materials. Hopeful and bright colors are often used in her work, delivering positive energy to viewers.

Representative works include a blue cross and 20 boxes, and there is a series of traces of time that emphasizes texture using stone powder and glass powder. Recently, she is also actively producing small-scale works that utilize lines and drawings. She is constantly experimenting with new ways of expression and continues her artistic exploration.

Having worked as a Residency writer in France in 2023 and exhibited her work in Normandy and Paris, she says she has been able to develop further through the reaction of European audiences. Last year, he presented his work at the Gallery Michel and the Paris Art Show, and this overseas exhibition experience helped greatly expand the scope of his creation.

Expectations are high on how her work will respond at this "ART SHOPPING PARIS 2025." In the future, she expressed her ambition to communicate with the audience through more diverse work and further challenge collaboration with clothing patterns and art products.

She said, "Art will play an even more important role in an era led by AI and science. Art becomes the driving force behind humans to breathe, dream, and imagine.
