Gumi National Industrial Complex is a symbolic place as the largest inland industrial complex. At that time, President Park Chung-hee made a decisive contribution to the selection and creation of the Gumi Industrial Complex, which achieved the miracle of the Nakdonggang River.

Construction of Gumi National Industrial Complex 1 began in March 1969, was completed in December 1973, and the second complex began construction in July 1977, was completed in February 1983, and began operation, with an area of 680,000 pyeong.

The third complex was announced in 1979, and construction began in 1987, was completed in 1995, and its area was 1.65 million pyeong.

Construction began in 1998 and completed in February 2011, and the 4th complex was visited by President Kim Dae Jung at the groundbreaking ceremony at the time. It boasts an area of 2.05 million pyeong, of which 280,000 pyeong is for foreigners.

Construction of Complex 5, also known as High-Tech Belli, began in April 2012, and is currently leading the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution with high-tech materials companies moving in.

On October 19, 2016, then President Park Geun Hye attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 4th plant of Toray High-tech Materials in Gumi National Industrial Complex and said, "There is a saying that we have to run forward to turn the pinwheel when the wind is not blowing. The worse the conditions surrounding us are, the bolder we have to run forward," he said.

On February 1, 2023, President Yoon Suk Yeol attended the SK Siltron Investment Agreement in Gumi City and said, "We will spare all resources to companies that make bold and preemptive investments. The government will not stop trying to secure national core technologies directly related to our future generation jobs."

Following the signing ceremony, President Yoon Suk Yeol, who visited the birthplace of Park Chung-hee, wrote in the guest book, "I will not forget the great future led by a great leader, and I will continue with the people."

구미 국가산업단지는 내륙 최대의 산업단지라는 상징적인 곳이다. 당시 박정희 대통령이 낙동강의 기적을 이룬 구미공단 선정과 조성에 결정적인 기여를 했다.

구미국가산업단지 1단지는 1969년 3월에 착공하여 1973년 12월 준공하여 가동을 시작하였으며, 2단지는1977년 7월에 착공하여, 1983년 2월에 준공되어 가동을 시작하였고, 면적은 68만 평이다.

3단지는 1979년 계획 고시 되어, 1987년에 착공하여 1995년 준공되어 가동을 시작하였고, 면적은 165만 평이다.

1998년 착공, 2011년 2월에 준공된 4단지는 당시 착공식에서 김대중 대통령이 방문하여 자리를 빛냈다. 205만 평의 면적을 자랑하며 이 중 28만 평은 외국인 전용단지이다.

일명 하이테크벨리라 불리는 5단지는 2012년 4월 착공되어 현재 첨단소재 기업들이 입주해 4차산업혁명시대를 선도해 나가고 있다.

2016년 10월 19일 당시 박근혜 대통령이 구미 국가산업단지에 소재한 도레이 첨단소재 4공장 기공식에 참석하여 "바람이 불지 않을 때 바람개비를 돌리려면 앞을 향해 달려나가야 한다는 말이 있습니다. 우리를 둘러싼 여건이 좋지 않을수록 앞을 향해 과감하게 달려나가야 합니다."라는 말을 남겼다.

2023년 2월 1일 윤석열 대통령은 구미시 소재 SK실트론 투자협약식에 참석하여 “과감하고 선제적인 투자를 하는 기업들에 모든 자원을 아끼지 않겠다”며 “정부는 우리 미래세대 일자리와 직결되는 국가 핵심기술을 확보하는 노력을 멈추지 않겠다” 고 밝혔다.

협약식에 이어 박정희 생가에 방문한 윤석열 대통령은 방명록에 "위대한 지도자가 이끈 위대한 미래, 국민과 함께 잊지 않고 이어가겠습니다."라는 글을 남겼다.
