The 6th Independence Activist Park Hee-kwang Completion of the Bae Geumgung Sports Competition

[Korea Distribution Newspaper = Reporter Kim Do-hyung] On August 15, the 80th anniversary of liberation, the 6th Independence Activist Park Hee-kwang's Golden Palace Sports Competition was held at the Gumi Seongri History Museum to commemorate the noble spirit of Park Hee-kwang, who devoted himself to the independence of his country.

Hosted by the Korea Distribution Newspaper and organized by the World Geumgung Sports Association (Chairman Kim Do-hyung), the competition began on August 15, 2020, in front of the statue of Park Hee-kwang in Geumosan Mountain, and since the second competition, it has continued its tradition of various commemorative and educational activities to honor the achievements of independence activists and to inherit and develop their spirit as part of the project to promote independence activists.

Park Geun-yong, chairman of the Suseong-gu branch of the Liberation Association, the eldest son of Park Hee-kwang, and Park Jung-yong, secretary-general of the Memorial Society of Park Hee-kwang, the second son of the teacher, attended the event. Park Jung-yong, secretary-general, had a time to reflect on the teacher's patriotic spirit by reporting his father's achievements.

According to Secretary-General Park Jung-yong, Patriot Park Hee-kwang is a representative armed independence activist who worked in Nammanju, Japanese colonial era. Known by his stage name "Sangman 萬," he worked as a member of the Korean Intention Ministry and took the lead in suppressing pro-Japanese group and raising military funds. He was arrested by the Japanese for these activities and sentenced to death, but after two commutations, he was released from prison after 18 years of imprisonment.

Park Hee-kwang was involved in various independence movement organizations, including the 5th Lieutenant of the Volunteer Army, the Korean Intention Ministry, and the Chamui Ministry, and spared his life for the independence of his country, including the raid of the Bongcheon Consulate General, the assassination of pro-Japanese group and high officials, and the procurement of military funds and weapons. In particular, he played a leading role in the pro-Japanese part of the "Pro-Japanese Punishment Incident" that shook South Manchuria in 1924, and was called "Triple Assassination" and "Three 壯" along with Kim Kwang-chu and Kim Byung-hyun, who worked together at the time. Despite the torture, he protected his comrades by keeping the organization secret until the end.

Secretary-General Park Jung-yong said, "I hope today's competition will be a place to honor Park Hee-kwang's patriotic spirit and valor and to reflect on the spirit of sacrifice of patriots who gave everything for independence."

Park Geun-yong, chairman of the Suseong-gu branch of the Liberation Association, said in a greeting, "I am deeply grateful to all the officials and veterans who prepared for the competition despite the unusually hot weather," and added, "I hope all the participating players will have good results." However, Park expressed regret that he could not be with us until the end due to his attendance at a concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

Meanwhile, poet Choi Jae-gun's recitation of Park Hee-kwang's memorial poem continued, adding to the impression of the event.

The 30 players who participated in the competition showed their focus on throwing gold pins in a serious position, bearing in their hearts Park Hee-kwang's courage and love for the country.

The event was enriched by the volunteer work of the Promuse Youth Organization and the talent donation of the Squirtle Workshop. In particular, the youth hip-hop crew "Leori" in Gumi City received great response by delivering patriotism with the voice of the younger generation as a hip-hop performance under the theme of liberation and patriotism. The participation of the younger generation and various cultural performances reminded us once again that the history of the independence movement is a valuable legacy that the present and future generations should remember and inherit together.

광복 80주년, 독립운동가 박희광 선생의 숭고한 정신을 기리다

제6회 독립운동가 박희광 선생 배 금궁스포츠대회 성료

[한국유통신문= 김도형 기자= 광복 제80주년을 맞이한 8월 15일, 구미성리학역사관에서는 조국의 독립을 위해 헌신한 박희광 선생의 숭고한 정신을 기리는 '제6회 독립운동가 박희광선생배 금궁스포츠대회'가 성대하게 개최되었다.

한국유통신문 주최, 세계금궁스포츠협회(회장 김도형) 주관으로 진행된 본 대회는, 2020년 8월 15일 금오산 박희광선생 동상 앞에서 제1회 대회 개최를 시작으로 제2회 대회 부터는 구미성리학역사관 긍운정 앞마당을 활용해 독립운동가 선양사업의 일환으로 독립운동가의 업적을 기리고 그 정신을 계승·발전시키기 위한 다양한 기념·교육 활동 전통을 이어가고있다.

이번 대회에는 박희광 선생의 장남인 박근용 광복회 수성구지회장과 차남인 박정용 박희광선생기념사업회 사무처장이 참석하여 자리를 빛냈다. 박정용 사무처장은 부친의 업적을 보고하며 선생의 애국정신을 다시 한번 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.

박정용 사무처장에 따르면, 애국지사 박희광 선생은 일제강점기 남만주 지역에서 활동한 대표적인 무장 독립운동가다. '상만(相萬)'이라는 예명으로 더 알려진 그는 대한통의부 소속으로 활동하며 친일파 토벌과 군자금 모금에 앞장섰다. 이러한 활동으로 일제에 체포되어 사형을 선고받았으나, 두 차례의 감형 끝에 18년간의 옥고를 치르고 출소했다.

박희광 선생은 의용군 제5중대, 대한통의부, 참의부 등 여러 독립운동 단체에 몸담으며 봉천 총영사관 습격, 친일파 및 고관 암살, 군자금 및 무기 조달 등 조국 독립을 위해 목숨을 아끼지 않았다. 특히 1924년 남만주를 뒤흔든 '친일파토벌대사건'의 주역으로, 당시 함께 활약한 김광추, 김병현과 함께 '3인조암살단', '삼장사(三壯士)'로 불리며 용맹을 떨쳤다. 선생은 모진 고문 속에서도 끝까지 조직의 비밀을 지켜내 동지들을 보호했다.

박정용 사무처장은 "오늘 이 대회가 박희광 선생의 애국애족 정신과 용맹을 기리고, 독립을 위해 모든 것을 바친 애국지사들의 희생정신을 되새기는 자리가 되기를 바란다"고 전했다.

이어 박근용 광복회 수성구지회장은 인사말을 통해 "유난히 무더운 날씨에도 불구하고 대회를 준비해주신 모든 관계자분들과 보훈 단체장님들께 깊은 감사를 드린다"며, "참가 선수 여러분 모두 좋은 성과를 거두시길 바란다"고 말했다. 다만 박 지회장은 광복 80주년 기념 음악회 참석 관계로 끝까지 자리를 함께하지 못하는 것에 대한 아쉬움을 표했다.

한편, 최재건 시인의 박희광 선생 추모시 낭송이 이어져 행사의 감동을 더했다.

이날 대회에 참가한 30명의 선수들은 박희광 선생의 용맹과 나라 사랑 정신을 가슴에 새기며, 진지한 자세로 금궁핀 투척에 집중하는 모습을 보였다.

이번 행사는 프롬유스 청년단체의 봉사활동과 꼼지락 공방의 재능기부가 더해져 더욱 풍성하게 치러졌다. 특히 구미시 청년 힙합크루 '레오리'는 광복과 애국지사를 주제로 한 힙합 공연으로 젊은 세대의 목소리로 애국을 전해 큰 호응을 얻었다. 젊은 세대의 참여와 다양한 문화 공연은 독립운동의 역사를 현재와 미래 세대가 함께 기억하고 계승해야 할 소중한 유산임을 다시 한번 일깨워주었다.
