도시재생사업의 일환으로 구미 금오시장 3층 빈공간에 스마트팜이 들어설 계획이다.

일명 수직농장인 실내 스마트팜은 농업의 새로운 화두다.

수직농장은 온실과 건축물 같은 인공 구조물 내에서 빛과 공기와 열과 양분 등 식물 생장 조건을 인공적으로 제어함으로써 사계절 내도록 농산물을 계획생산 할 수 있는 시스템이다.

수직농장에 있어서 필수조건은 광원이다. 수직농장은 광원에 따라 LED를 활용한 인공광형과 자연광 병용형으로 구분할 수 있다.

수직농장의 장점은 최적의 재배환경조성과 품질 안정화 및 규격화 그리고 미세먼지와 병충해를 원천 차단 할 수 있다. 더불어 계절에 상관없는 연중 재배와 도시형 농업으로 육성이 가능하며 첨단 농업 기술 발전에 기여한다.

이제는 도시인들도 도시형 스마트팜으로 오랫동안 방치됐던 빈 건축물에서 농장을 경영할 수 있는 시대며 다양한 용도로 활용할 수 있는 아이디어의 보고로 자리잡았다.

나아가 새로운 일자리 창출이 예상되며 실버들에게 버거운 큰 노동력을 필요로 하지 않는 좋은 일자리 대안으로 자리 잡을 것으로 기대된다.
